How do I start a new web page?
In Netscape Composer/Mozilla, under WINDOW choose COMPOSER. A new page will appear. Be sure to name the new page right away. Pick a name that relates to its content.
What is the name of my new page?
Each page you create must be named. You pick the name. For example, if you create a new page with a definition of geography, you might name it defgeog.html.
What is the address of the page?
When you mail a letter you provide specific information for it to be delivered correctly. You write the name of the person, the street address, the city, the state, and the zip code. Without even one piece of information, the mail will not arrive.Every page on the web has an address (url) which tells exactly where it is located. Without providing all information, a web browser cannot find a page. You have to tell the name of the page and where it is located.
Your web pages reside:
- on a server named people.tamu.edu
- in a folder called ~login id, e.g., ~swb5108.
- For a web browser to find a page you have to tell its completed url, e.g., http://people.tamu.edu/~swb5108/defgeog.htm
How do I put the new page on the web?
After you have created a new page, you must publish it to the web. To publish a page using Netscape you must ftp (file transfer protocal) it to unix.tamu.edu. Do do this you must use a FTP software such as FETCH (Mac) or WS FTP (PC).
How can I link my new page to my first, home page?
All web pages should be linked through buttons. You should be able to move within a page (from the top to the bottom of a page) through targets and links. You should be able to move from page to page with links and you should be able to move back to the home page from any page.Type the name of the page you wish to link to, e.g., Definition of Geography. Highlight the type, and go to LINK. In the dialogue box, type in the address of the page you wish to link to, e.g., http://people.tamu.edu/~swb5108/defgeog.htm
Don't forget to give browsers a way to get back home. Type Home (or use a button

How can I add visual details to my web page?
You will want your web page to function well and also to look attractive. Look at other web pages to see what looks good and ways to lay out your pages. Most web sites use tables without borders to allow multiple columns of information.You will want to include maps, graphs, pictures, and lots of information on your Geography for Life web assignment web site. That will require you to insert pictures in Netscape just like your picture. Be sure to send all pictures to the web when you publish.
What do I have to do to prepare for the field work assignment?
First, be sure to read the information on the web site. This explains all the assignments and outlines the material you will need. Be sure to download and print the checklist. Second, select two other classmates you would like to work with.
