This course investigates methodology of integrating various spatial analysis and modeling techniques with GIS for environmental/socio-economic applications; practical applications; theoretical/technical aspects of related issues in detail.

The course endeavors to present a solid theoretical background in GIS analysis and modeling. Students will also receive extensive instruction and hands-on activities and projects that will enabling them to apply the theoretical concepts presented to real-world examples using the ArcGIS software suite. An introduction to enhancing ArcGIS through ArcObjects and object-oriented programming will be presented. In addition, students will be exposed to the IDL programming and analysis package.

The course's three-hour meeting time will be apportioned to both lecture and lab. The time devoted to each component will vary week by week as required.
