Educational Research Projects
The Texas A&M Geography Department has a strong geographic education component and in my time here I have been made aware of the necessity improving the use of geographical techniques in secondary education and have been involved in a number of educationally-related research endeavors.
My first educational endeavor was as part of a of six member team that enhanced geoscience teaching through the design, implementation, and evaluation of a professional development experience for science and geography teachers, grades 6-12, in the core integrating spatial technologies of geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS), and scientific visualization in a program we call GeoITS.
This project is funded as part of a recent NSF program award to Texas A&M and other Texas institutions of a NSF Center for Learning and Teaching focusing on Information Technology in Science.
More recently, I have been involved with three other Geography Faculty the Advancing Geospatial Skills in Science and Social Science project which is one of a number of NSF GK-12 projects.
