You should expect to have one quiz every week, excluding the first and last weeks of the semester. The quiz will cover the reading listed in the syllabus for the week in which the quiz is given. Always read according to the schedule in the syllabus even if I get a bit ahead or behind in class. In general, quizzes will be given during the first 10 minutes of class on Thursdays, but at least one quiz will be given on Tuesday. Thus, you must do the week's reading by class time on Tuesday if you want to be prepared. If you think of this as reading ahead, then read ahead.
Quizzes will consist of 8 questions. Three will be formulated by the TA and will cover the reading. I will compose five more to cover the lecture material. The first three questions will cover the reading assignment and will almost always begin with "According to your text." We will use the book as the authority in deciding the correct answer to these questions.
The quiz questions are not meant to be tricky, but they do require careful reading. Note that because a multiple-choice response is true does not mean it is the answer to the question. Most of you will find that you have plenty of time to complete the quizzes, so take your time and make sure you understand the question. If you are unclear about the point of the question, ask during the quiz. I will be happy to explain what I mean, and you might pick up a hint about the right answer.
Make sure you come to class on time. If you arrive late and the quiz has already begun, you will not be given extra time.
